The 7th NCRM will have a topical programme discussing tomorrow's radiology services with lectures and debates delivered by speakers from a variety of backgrounds. The conference will also include a networking exhibition and drinks reception.

Andy Rogers
Head of Radiation Physics at Nottingham University Hospitals,
President of the British Institute of Radiology
Andy was Chair of the BIR’s Radiation Protection Committee for many years but has been given time off for good behaviour! Andy represents BIR on various external bodies such as the group that advises the HSE on the EU Basic Safety Standards. He represents the UK on IEC and is working to revise the standard on interventional x-ray equipment. He is a member of an ICRP working group on Diagnostic Reference Levels. Andy’s current research interests include optimisation in interventional procedures.
Dr. Andy Smethurst
Consultant Radiologist, Aintree University Hospital and Medical Director

Andy has broad experience within his Trust as a previous Clinical Director and Chair of the Medical Staff Committee. As MDPP his role covers all College activities relevant to radiologists once they become a consultant.
Bev Snaith
Lead Consultant Radiographer, Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust
Bev qualified as a radiographer in Bristol before returning to her native Yorkshire. She has been at the forefront of role development, having introduced radiographer reporting in 1996. Bev moved to Wakefield in 2002, where she was appointed one of the first consultant radiographers in the UK. As a member of the senior leadership team, within radiology she combines clinical, leadership, education and research. Bev is widely published and holds honorary research posts at the Universities of Bradford and Salford.
David White
Head of Operations – Imaging, University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust
David White is a diagnostic radiographer with over 29 years’ NHS experience in clinical and managerial roles across London and the Midlands. David consistently looks to achieve the timely delivery of diagnostic clinical services to improve clinical outcomes, whilst keeping up to date with best practice and developing new and innovative business management systems to maximise organisational efficiency and effectiveness of the service. David’s department supports ways of reducing demand, by improving delivery of imaging and reporting times for a positive effect on clinical outcomes, reducing the time to diagnosis and consequently reducing length of stay.
Gill Holroyd
Radiology Service Manager, St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust
Born in Scotland, Gill has spent her working life in Merseyside. Qualifying in 1977 she worked at the Royal Southern Hospital (home of the first diagnostic X-ray image), before the Royal Liverpool and Arrowe Park Hospitals. Whilst in child production (three), Gill spent four years in breast radiography, followed by ten years of CT, MR, IR and General Radiography at the Royal. Her management career started at St Helens and Knowsley Hospitals in 2000 as CT/MRSuperintendent. In 2013, Gill was appointed Radiology Manager at StHK. Gill has been an ISAS assessor since 2009, and to let off steam, sings in two choirs, listens to heavy rock and is a massive Liverpool FC fan.
Heather Bruce
Freedom to Speak Up (FTSU) Guardian, University
Hospitals of Morecambe Bay (UHMB) NHSFT
Heather trained to be a diagnostic radiographer in Norwich, moving to South Cumbria in 1988, and she has lived and worked there ever since; she is the Industrial Relations rep for the Society of Radiographers at Furness General Hospital in Barrow-in-Furness. Heather was appointed as FTSU Guardian for UHMB in July 2015, becoming one of the first in the country. Heather believes that staff who feel happy and supported at work will speak up for their patients, and this is intrinsically linked to the open and transparent culture that we are all striving for, to ensure high quality safe patient care.
Kim Robertson
Head of Radiology Services & Professional Lead for Diagnostic Radiography,
Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust
Kim has 30 years’ experience in radiology services in the NHS, working both in district general hospitals and large London teaching hospitals. In her current role, she collaborates with a wide range of colleagues in a large radiology service, integrating operational delivery with the aspirations of a tripartite mission: delivering research, academia & clinical services with a transformation focus across all. Kim comments that these are the challenges and opportunities that make working in 21st century healthcare both highly demanding and rewarding and she feels very privileged to continue to work in the NHS.
Leigh Jenkins
Project Manager, NHS Benchmarking Network
Leigh is a project manager at the NHS Benchmarking Network. She has overall responsibility for the acute sector and has project managed the Radiology benchmarking project for the last two years. Leigh joined the team in June of 2014 after completing her degree in Nutrition and Dietetics, where she spent time on placement in acute and community trusts. Through these placements, she developed an interest in promoting good practice and service improvement. Leigh manages the design and delivery of several projects, and represents the Network at many external partnership meetings. She assists benchmarking clients and NHS Benchmarking Network members with queries on many aspects of the project cycle.
Lesley Wright
Independent Quality Improvement Consultant
Formerly the National Director Diagnostics, NHS Improvement, Lesley established the national Radiology Service Improvement team in 2002. She developed and tested improvement techniques, then established the national Pathology, Cytology and Endoscopy, improvement programmes. Lesley published ‘How to Guides’ to spread the learning and presented at national and international improvement forums in USA and Scandinavia. Trained in the latest improvement science methodology, Lesley’s focus is to demonstrate the value effective and efficient diagnostics services can have across the whole healthcare system and train staff improvement methodology to build capability. Qualified as a diagnostic radiographer, Lesley has expertise in CT, MRI and Nuclear Medicine.
Neil Mesher
CEO, Philips UK and Ireland
Neil is CEO for the Philips business in UK and Ireland. In his 21 years with the company Neil has held a number of leadership positions in the UK and the Nordic region, and has managed global functions from the Netherlands. In addition to his role at Philips, Neil is a member of the Life Sciences Industrial Strategy Board, representing the Medtech industry, and is a Board Director of the Association of British Healthcare Industries.
Nick Woznitza
Clinical Academic Consultant Radiographer, Homerton University Hospital
Nick qualified as a radiographer in 1999, from the University of South Australia. After moving to the UK in 2005, he specialised in clinical reporting, interpreting a broad spectrum of plain imaging examinations. His PhD, completed in 2017, examined on chest X-ray reporting by radiographers. His current role is clinical academic consultant radiographer at Homerton University Hospital and Canterbury Christ Church University. Nick is responsible for reporting skeletal, chest and neonatal X-rays, and his current research focus is the role of radiographers within the lung cancer pathway and optimising service delivery.
Pamela Black
Radiology Services Manager, Wirral University Teaching Hospital, NHS Foundation Trust
Pam Black is a radiographer whose career spans almost 38 years working mainly in and around Merseyside. She became a Radiology Manager in 2002 across the border in North Wales before moving closer to home to take up a post at Aintree University Hospital. In November 2014, she moved across the River Mersey to become Radiology Manager at Wirral University Teaching Hospital. Pam was elected as UK Council Member for the North West of England in 2009. She was immensely proud to be elected President for 2013/14 during which time she was very involved with the concept and creation of a new national Clinical Imaging Board. Pam is currently the Vice Chair of Radiology and Oncology Congress, a member of the Society of Radiographers College board of Trustees and is the International Society of Radiographers and Radiological Technologists UK Council Member.
Richard Evans
Chief Executive Officer, The Society and College of Radiographers
Richard Evans qualified as a diagnostic radiographer in 1982. He developed an interest in neuro radiography and this led to specialising in CT and MRI. He established both modalities during 10 years at Salisbury District Hospital. He was General Manager for the Radiology Directorate at Poole Hospital for four years. Richard applied for the post of CEO for the Society and College of Radiographers on the basis that the only way to be sure of not getting a job is not to apply. Surprised and delighted to be appointed in 2004, these emotions still predominate.
Stephen Day
Senior Information Analyst, NHS Benchmarking Network
Stephen is the senior information analyst for the NHS Benchmarking Network. He studied statistics as part of his Psychology degree and later became an information analyst at Mersey Care NHS Trust. Passionate about information and analytics, he joined the Network in 2012 and has since produced numerous toolkits and reports for specialities including radiology, mental health, and acute therapies for member organisations. In the last 5 years he has worked on national and International projects to provide information that has been used in the planning, utilisation and formation of services.
Dr. Tim Taylor
Medical Director, EMRAD Consortium
Consultant Neuroradiologist, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust
Dr Tim Taylor is the Medical Director of the EMRAD NHS consortium, a group of seven acute trusts in the East Midlands working collaboratively to build a technical and governance radiology system for the consortium. He is responsible for developing and reviewing clinical requirements and specifications, identifying and managing clinical risks, and keeping the Trusts working together in step with each other. EMRAD became an Acute Care Collaboration Vanguard in 2015; since that time Tim has also been responsible for sharing the concept of collaborative consortium across the wider NHS, including directly supporting any other NHS organisations who would like to explore further.
This event is specific to radiology managers and clinical management colleagues and provides an excellent educational and networking opportunity. NCRM is a CPD endorsed event.
